The design process

The process for effective instructional design is a time-tested one. As such, I am skilled and experienced in the following aspects of training development for web-based training courses. The steps and deliverables are a little different for instructor-led training, but the overarching process is quite similar.

  • Meet with course owners and subject matter experts (SMEs) to determine the current state of training and goals we want to accomplish.

Outcome: Recommendations for training modes and scope

  • Review existing training; meet with SMEs to assess state of current materials and collect first pass on necessary changes.

Outcome: Content outline, if necessary; revised materials

  • Create (or revise) the storyboard for the course.

    Outcome: Draft PowerPoint storyboard

  • Review the materials closely with SMEs, ensuring the course (content, images, audio, etc.) is locked and ready for production.

    Outcome: Final pre-production storyboard

  • Convert the PowerPoint storyboard into full-fledged elearning.

Outcome: Alpha version of the course

  • Review the course through several rounds of testing, ensuring that all content is accurate and complete.

Outcome: Final version of the course, ready for the LMS
